Alice R. Crain 81, from Independence MO. went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 27, 2019. Alice was born on January 17, 1938 to Frank and Goldie Mae (Williams) Thurston and raised in North Kansas City. She worked for the Medical Center of Independence as a housekeeper the majority of her life. She loved to do exciting things, vacation and loved her knitting, sewing and quilting. Alice leaves behind her daughters, Diana Van Dyke (Paul), Debra Stephens, and Denice Fleshman 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Garrison, Justin Fleshman, Travis Stephens, Dharma Craig and Preston Craig, 2 great grandchildren Wyatt Schreiber and Sawyer Coulson. 3 sisters Mary Rantz, Joyce Borgmier and Ruby Johnson. She was predeceased by her husband Austin Crain, brothers Frank Thurston and Harold Thurston, Son-in-law John Stephens and several extended family and friends. Although Mom loved her flowers, she was very well taken care of in her final days by Ascend Hospice, so if you wish to make a donation in her name instead it will be greatly appreciated. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 East 39th St S. Independence MO 64055 with burial to follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery, 614 S. Brookside Ave., Independence, MO. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Tuesday at the chapel.
