Norma J. Cross, 88, of Independence, MO passed away on September 29, 2016. Visitation will be from 6-8pm Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Funeral services will be 10am Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the chapel. Burial will take place in Mound Grove Cemetery. Norma was born on March 18, 1928 in Hockerville, OK to Joe and Lillian (Turnbull) Crowell. She was a long time member of Bannister Ridge Community of Christ Church. Along with her husband, she was very active in church, assuming many roles including Pastor and Zion’s League Leader. In 1960 Norma began a career in Court Reporting Transcribing. In 1988 she opened her own business, Cross Reporting Services, Inc., where she remained until her retirement in 2000. While running her business, Norma found time to go back to school and earn her Associate Degree while in her 60’s! She enjoyed water skiing with her husband at the helm, and traveling. While traveling they visited 42 States. Perhaps her greatest joy was that of her family, they were very important to her and she enjoyed spending time with all of them. Survivors include; her loving husband of 65 years Jimmie Cross; sons Mike Cross, Richard Cross, and Jim Cross Hubbard; daughters Randie Cross Marsh (William) and Carlena Cross Coleman (Steve); 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a large extended family and many friends. Norma is preceded in death by: her parents; sisters, Hazel May and Ethel Mae Herdman; brothers Art Rash, John Rash, Melvin Rash, Glen Crowell and Len Crowell.
