Max Eugene Croucher, 90 of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Parkway Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 16, 2016 at the St. Marks Catholic Church 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055. Burial with full military honors will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4:00 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 3:45 p.m., Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Donations may be made in his name to the Sisters of St. Francis, American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Foundation. Max was born August 23, 1925 in Burlingame, KS to Henry and Ruth (Carter) Croucher and attended Auburn, KS High and enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served in WWII in the South Pacific. He had worked as a machinist for Armco Steel and Amoco Oil until his retirement in 1982. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and working in his yard. He was a member of St. Marks’s Catholic Church and former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He supported his community and friends including the American Legion, DAV and the Sisters of St. Francis. He is survived by: his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Jean of the home; 2 daughters, Cheryl Spurgeon and husband Mark of Kansas City, MO and Christy Reinkemeyer and husband Mark of Independence, MO; a brother, Virgil Croucher of Ottawa, KS; a sister, Juanita Michael of Houston, TX; 5 grandchildren, Matt Morris, Megan Hoffmeyer, Kim Totty, Erin Reinkemeyer and Kelli Reinkemeyer and 5 great grandchildren, Sophia Morris, Giana Morris, Max Hoffmeyer, Ava Hoffmeyer and Vivianne Totty. He was preceded in death by 4 siblings, Everett Croucher, Harold Croucher, George Croucher and Madeline Wyrick.
