Barbara J. Cummins, 77, of Independence, MO passed away on October 28, 2006 at the Independence Regional Health Center. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the chapel. Burial at Mound Grove Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Center Place Restoration School. Barbara was born on May 12, 1929, the daughter of D.O. Cato, former Independence Police Chief, and her mother, Mildred B. (Skinner) Cato. She was a proud member of the Laurel Club, a member of the Independence Messiah Choir for over 50 years, and a longtime member of the South Crysler Restoration Branch. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James V. Cummins. She is survived by her son, Doug Cummins; two daughters, Denise M. Witherell and Dana B. Friend; one sister, Kathlyn Graves of Universal City, TX; one brother, Alwyn Cato of Independence, MO; six grandchildren; and one expected great granddaughter.
