Gloria Sue “Susie” Curtin, age 92, passed away on December 9th, 2022, at home surrounded by her family.
Susie was born on October 20, 1930 to Harold and Leota Custis in Independence, Missouri. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1949. She married Edward Curtin on December 3rd 1949. Susie and Ed went on to have 3 children, Michael, Patricia and Mark. She worked for the Jackson County Election board and Leo Walker’s Florist in Englewood. She was passionate about square dancing and danced with the Silver Dollars. She also had a love for painting and taught many painting classes. Her family’s homes are full of her paintings. Susie and Ed spent years living in Warsaw, MO and spent their winters in Benson, AZ working as campground hosts.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Leota, and her brother, Eugene Custis. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Edward Curtin, her 3 children, Michael Curtin (Colleen) of Hollister, MO, Patricia Michalski (Steve) of Independence, MO, Mark Curtin (Ava) of Denton, TX, and one brother, Cleo Custis (Millie); her grandchildren, Julie Curtin, Travis Curtin, Nikki Curtin, Mark 2nd (Eddie) Curtin, and Aubrey Swank; 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO, 64052, 816-252-7900. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. following the visitation on Tuesday at the funeral chapel with burial at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens, Independence, MO.
