James F. Curtin, 80, of Independence, MO, passed away peacefully at his home on June 28, 2014 with his wife at his side. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. 1501 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, MO 64052. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the chapel. Donations may be made in his name to the American Heart Association. Jim was born May 31, 1934 in Independence, MO to William and Edna Curtin. Jim was a sportsman all of his life winning many awards for trapshooting before losing part of his sight in 1997. He loved fishing, hunting and sitting around a campfire telling stories with his grandchildren on his acreage in Warsaw. Jim retired in May of 1996 from Allis Chalmers after 32 years of service. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Doria of the home; 4 daughters, Christine A. Berlin and husband Ron, Diane L. Serrano and husband Steve, Sandra J. Watt and husband Kevin and Jeanine D. Fillpot and husband John; a son, James C. Curtin and wife Nancy; a brother, Edward M. Curtin and wife Sue; 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and many other family and friends He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Jane Marie Mittelstadt Gutridge.
