Mary Jean Curtin

May 24, 1949 — December 21, 2020

Mary Jean Mullen Curtin, 71, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, at St. Luke's Hospital East in Lee's Summit.

Mary was born May 24, 1949, in Kansas City to Ralph and Gladys (Richter) Mullen. She lived her whole life in the Kansas City area, graduating from Southwest High School in 1967. On June 2, 1973, she married Edward M. Curtin in Kansas City, and they had two daughters. Mary was a proud and dedicated stay-at-home mother, Girl Scout leader and room parent for her girls while they were young, then went to work outside the home as a title processor for more than 15 years. She became an enthusiastic and loving grandmother to three girls -- her pride and joy. Mary was fun loving, quick witted and beautiful inside and out. She loved to read and go on adventures with her husband, once taking a spur-of-the-moment road trip over 11 states that ended up lasting almost three weeks. She liked to spend time playing cards and trying new restaurants with friends and family, and enjoyed every second she could with her kids and grandkids -- she was there for every birthday party, recital and concert. Mary loved her family above all else, and she let them know it every day with daily phone calls and texts. She passed on her gift for unconditional love and was the best example of a mother's love to her own girls as they became mothers. She was the heart of her family and will be forever missed.

Mary is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 47 years, Ed; her two daughters, Lori Curtin Sholtz of St. Charles, Mo. (husband Phil) and Lisa Curtin Davis of Blue Springs, Mo. (husband Chad); her three granddaughters who absolutely adored their grandma, Brooke and Emma Sholtz and Ava Davis; her sister, Judy Mullen Hofmann of Blue Springs, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Mullen; her mother, Gladys Mullen; her sister, Joyce Mullen; and two infant sons, Jeffrey Michael and Christopher Michael.

Cremation is planned with a private family service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date when all of her loved ones are able to safely gather.
