Jack M. Curtis, 82, of Independence, MO died on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at The Groves nursing home. Born in Independence to Edward A. Curtis and Hazel Brackenbury Curtis, Jack married Betty Jean Speers in March 1943. He served in the US Army from August 1942, until September 1943. He and Berry were under full-time church appointment by the World Church Headquarters of the Community of Christ for 30 years, from 1956 to 1983, residing in Iowa, West Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, and Michigan before returning to Independence in 1971. Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ was his passion, a life-long commitment built on several generations of fulltime church service. He retired from church appointment in 1983. Berry Speers Curtis passed away in May 1993. He married Betty Strom Curtis in October 1995, and they resided at the Groves apartments in Independence. His survivors include his wife, Betty Strom Curtis; brother, Keith Curtis; son, Clifton Curtis of Washington DC; three daughters, Marilyn Hoskins, of Williamston, MI, Christine Heiser of Wheat Ridge, CO, Jeanne Davies of Williamston, MI; and five stepchildren, Jessica, Hannah, and Xavier; one great grandchild, Tyess. Services will be 10 am Tuesday, June 8th at George C. Carson & Sons Funeral Home; with interment in Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 8:30 pm at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to The Community of Christ Temple Fund, or The Groves Alzheimer�s unit.
