Lawrence A. “Larry” Curtner, 82 of Shawnee, KS, formerly of Independence, MO passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 20, 2019 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052 with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Larry was born November 22, 1936 in Lexington, MO to Alfred and Dorothy (Bender) Curtner and has been a long-time resident of Independence. He had worked for the Vendo Company, Kenworth Trucks and Ford Motor Company before opening Larry’s Shoe Repair which he operated until his retirement in 1999. Larry enjoyed watching football, NASCAR and fishing. He was a member of the VFW. Larry proudly served in the US Army and had 2 tours of duty. The first during the Korean Conflict from 1954-57 and later from 1961-64 at the beginning of Vietnam. He was married to Iris (Bauswell) on June 29, 1974, she preceded him in death in November of 2010. He was also preceded in death by a son, Glenn A. Curtner in 2008. He is survived by; a sister, Yvonne Cotton of Independence, MO; 2 grandchildren, Robert and Ryan Hooks and 3 grandchildren, Robert, Ryan and Joi Hooks.
