Dale Henry Hertzberg

July 2, 1933 — November 27, 2023

Buckner, Missouri

Dale Hertzberg, aged 90, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2023 at Benton House of Blue Springs. He was born on July 2, 1933, to Floyd and Lelah (Hammontree) Hertzberg in Stockton, MO and spent his childhood years in Harrisonville, MO.
Dale attended Southwest Baptist Junior College and graduated from the University of MO in Columbia in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He later earned his Professional Land Surveyor and Professional Engineer license.
Dale served honorably in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Lee, VA, from July 1956 through July 1958. After leaving the army, Dale met and married Cecile Lee Mann. They established a home in Lee’s Summit, MO where they raised their two daughters, Lynn and Lee Ann.  Both before and after his military service, Dale dedicated the 41 years of his professional life to the Missouri Highway Department as a civil engineer. His hard work and expertise contributed significantly and left an indelible mark on the infrastructure of the state he served.  When nearing retirement, Dale and Cecile Lee built a home on an acreage in Buckner, MO. While living in Buckner, Dale served on the Buckner Planning and Zoning Board, the Board of Rural Water District 16 and was president of the Buckner Hill Cemetery Board.  A life-long Southern Baptist, Dale served faithfully as a deacon, trustee and committed member of the First Baptist Churches of Lee’s Summit and Buckner.  In retirement, Dale embraced life with vigor and enthusiasm. He and Cecile Lee traveled the world on cruises and tours. An avid golfer and table tennis player, he found joy in friendly competition, often securing the cruise championship title during his travels around the world. Dale immensely enjoyed working to maintain his home, his garden and the 161-acre farm in Buckner.
Dale’s family and friends will fondly remember his sense of humor, his love for telling stories, his handyman skills and the pride he took in his thriftiness.
His memory will forever be cherished by his beloved wife, Cecile Lee (Mann) Hertzberg, his sister, Laura (Joe) Dillingham and his daughters Lynn Aladeen (Scott) and Lee Alevy (Jeff), his grandchildren Traci Aladeen (Dan Kelly), Joe Aladeen, and B.A. Sizemore and his great grandson, Lincoln Kelly.  The Hertzberg family extends thanks to the staff of Benton House Blue Springs for the excellent care, love and friendship provided to Dale during his last year of life.  A memorial service to celebrate Dale's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 2, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Buckner.  Burial will follow in Buckner Hill Cemetery.  The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m., until service time Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to First Baptist Church, Buckner, MO.  May he rest in peace.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at
