Dana Kinney

April 19, 1945 — September 25, 2023

Blue Springs

Dana Kinney, 78, of Blue Springs, MO, passed away on September 25, 2023, at Centerpoint Medical Center. She was born on April 19, 1945, in Independence, MO to Jackie Davis (White) and Harold White. Dana graduated from William Chrisman High school in 1963 and went on to attend Southwest Missouri State University. She married Paul Kinney on February 1, 1964, at St Anne’s Catholic Church, Fairmount, Independence, MO. They went on to have two children: a son Dan Kinney of St. Louis, MO (wife Nancy) and daughter Karen Terry of Springfield, MO (husband Jason). Dana worked as a surgical coordinator for Dr. Gerhard Cibis, a pediatric ophthalmologist, for over 30 years. She loved her work and her work family so much that she retired from service there twice. One of her favorite things was having family and friends over for dinners and get-togethers, especially during the holidays.

She loved them so dearly and tried to spend as much time as she could with them all. Dana enjoyed watching her grandchildren in their sports and activities, playing games with friends, bunko especially, and loved being the number caller for the family Christmas bingo night with “Fabulous Prizes.” She was very active in her church and volunteered at the church food pantry and participated in the women’s ministries. Dana loved to read, go to the movies and theater, and even participated in bowling leagues in her younger years. She was a very involved mother for her children growing up and participated in the PTA, was a girl scout leader, and attended many of their activities. Dana and Jerry hosted AFS students from Italy and Sweden and they were liaison parents to several others from around the world. She always made sure you felt welcome in her home. Dana helped raise her brother and sisters growing up when her stepdad became ill, and she also cared for her mom and ill sister when they were no longer able to care for themselves. No matter what she always rose to the challenge. Dana will forever be known as a kindhearted and loving person. However, in her later years she was in much pain and suffered greatly and forced to give up much of what she enjoyed.

She is survived by her husband Paul “Jerry” Kinney, children Dan and Karen and their spouses, grandchildren Thomas Kinney of St Louis, Adrienne Kinney of St Louis, Nate Terry (wife Johnna) of Springfield, MO, and Emily Terry of Springfield, MO, brother Rudy Davis of Independence, MO, sister Nita Davis of Mayodan, NC, and her nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Robin Davis. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel with a funeral service being held Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Church with burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
