Daniel Vernon DeLong, known affectionately as "Danny," passed away on April 13, 2024, in Independence. He was born on August 24, 1954, in Rutland, Vermont. Daniel served his country with honor in the Navy and then went on to have a fulfilling career life, he worked for Boeing in Florida, then transcribed for the hearing impaired before joining the IT team at the Kansas City Public Schools where he later retired.
Described as funny, kind, and outgoing, Daniel had a vibrant personality that touched the lives of many. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, singing karaoke, collecting coins, and spending quality moments with his family and friends. His hobbies also included working with computers, watching football and baseball - particularly cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals - as well as showcasing his skills in cooking and BBQ-ing.
Daniel is survived by his loving wife, Lorie DeLong; his children, Andrea and her husband Dustin, Aaron, and Hanah; two grandchildren; and siblings, David and his wife Linda, Derwood and his wife Connie, Sarah, Donne, Damon, and Darren. He is also remembered by his extended family members and numerous dear friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Vernon and Elisabeth DeLong and siblings, Delwin and Heidi.
Services to honor and celebrate Daniel's life will be held at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, Missouri 64055. Visitation will take place on April 17, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be held on April 18 at 9:00 AM followed by burial at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville at 12:00 PM.
