Later he worked as Plant Manager for Faultless Starch Company of Kansas City, eventually being promoted to Vice President of Acquisitions and New Business Development. His work with Faultless Starch Company required traveling to several countries and many parts of the United States. After retiring from Faultless Starch, he worked with Andes and Roberts Construction Company. Jerry was very active in religious, civic, and charitable organizations. He was ordained Elder in the Community of Christ Church, having served as a youth minister, Pastor, and Counselor to three stake presidents. Some of his fund raising activities were General of the Central Industrial District Red Feather Campaign in Kansas City and Independence Symphony Orchestra. He served as Chairman of the Board for radio station KXTR and President of Central Plaza Development in Independence, which built Heritage House (senior housing), and Chairman of the Board for Music Arts Institute.
Jerry was married to Millicent (Drummond) Daugherty for 61 years. They had two children Jerilynn Dunn and Bruce Evan Daugherty. He was preceded in death by Millicent and daughter Jerilynn.
