Armstead R. Davis
Armstead R. Davis, 96, affectionately known as "Uncle Steady� and "Army� died on May 1, 2006 at John Knox Village Care Center in Lee�s Summit, Mo. Mr. Davis will lie in state at Carson-Speaks Chapel on Friday, May 5th from 9-11 A.M. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Trinity Episcopal Church on Friday at 1:00 P.M. Interment will be in Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery with military honors. He was born in Lincoln County, Missouri on October 25, 1909 the son of William L. and Edna Champ Carter Davis. He was baptized and confirmed by Bishop Tuttle in St. John�s Church at Prairieville, Missouri. He graduated from Prairieville, Mo. schools. Army was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II in France and Germany. Mr. Davis was retired from Sears where he had been a Warehouse and Service Manager for over 35 years and was a member of the National Association of Retired Sears Employees Inc. He worked for a short time for Broch�s in Hastings, Nebraska. Mr. Davis was an avid reader, always seeking knowledge and on top of current events. He loved caring for his family. He also was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church since 1954 and served in the capacity of Jr. Warden, Sr. Warden and as Lay Reader. He loved to play golf and enjoyed playing the Rockwood Country Club Course. Mr. Davis married Rosa Elizabeth Miller on August 17, 1930. She predeceased him on March 22, 1985. He is also survived by a nephew Bill Davis M.D. and his wife Judy of Columbia, Mo; two nieces, Charlene McCune and her husband Tapley of Bowling Green, Mo. and Shirley Margaret Forgey and husband Charles of Vandalia, Mo. and many nieces and nephews from his wife�s family and well as many great nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Episcopal Church of Independence, 409 N. Liberty, 64050. Carson-Speaks Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
