John A. Davis

John A. Davis, 73, of Independence, died October 2, 2006 at a local hospital. Visitation for Mr. Davis will be held on Thursday at the South Crysler Restoration Branch Church at 16101 Salisbury Road in Independence from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Friday at 10:00 A.M. at Mound Grove Cemetery. John was born in Harrisonville, Missouri on July 30, 1933 the son of Homer J. and Florence (Diehl) Davis. He was raised in Lee�s Summit and has lived in Independence most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in the Naval Reserve. John will be remembered as a generous man to his family and was quiet and reflective. He received a liver transplant in 2000 but never complained during his illness much like his son Jay who preceded him in death on May 17, 2000. Mr. Davis received a degree in Economics from UMKC while working full time. He was a senior engineer for AT&T for 40 years and after his retirement worked for Sprint for another 10 years. He was an Elder at South Crysler Restoration Branch Church. He was a former member of the Model A Ford Club and was a member of the Jackson County Genealogy Society. He married Shirley R. Mock in Independence on March 6, 1955 and she survives him. He is also survived by a son Paul R. Davis and his wife Lynette, a daughter in law Donna L. Davis and five grandchildren; Alec Davis, Jenna Davis, Miles Davis, Rachel Wood and Christian Davis all of Independence, and by a brother Fred H. Davis and his wife Jean of Georgetown, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Center Place Restoration School, 819 W. Waldo Ave., Independence, Mo. 64050.
