Odelia Davis

July 9, 1919 — August 27, 2013

Odelia “DeeDee” Davis, 94, of Independence, MO, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away August 27, 2013 due to heart complications. A Visitation will take place on Friday, August 30th from 1:00-3:00 pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO., followed by a private family graveside service at Blue Springs Cemetery.
Odelia was born on July 9, 1919 in Fulton County, Arkansas to Andrew and Jody Rogers (Mahan). Her mother passed at an early age leaving Odelia and her three sisters to help on the family farm. Her family moved to Hardy, Arkansas, where she graduated from Hardy Arkansas High School, the same year she married the love of her life, David Davis. This union lasted over 60 wonderful years and produced a daughter Barbara (Davis) Hill . The family moved to Peoria, IL briefly to support the war efforts before settling in Independence, MO.
Odelia worked at Emery, Bird, & Thayer and The Jones Store as a handbag buyer for many years. She came out of retirement to work at Sam’s Club on East 39th Street as a sample cook for another fifteen years. Her smile, work ethic, and samples will be remembered by all.
The anchor of our family, Odelia, served as a Priest with the Community of Christ Church dedicating many hours at both the Stone Church and Mount Washington Congregations. She was also a wonderful cook (known for her brownies, rum cake, apple cake, and sweet potato casserole), a proud Democrat (she knew the voting record of almost every politician in both the good party and the other party), an accomplished gardener, and an antique collector.
She is preceded in death by her husband, David Davis, father Andrew Rogers, mother Jody (Mayhan) Rogers and sister Othelia “Tilly” Stark. Odelia is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Davis) Hill and husband Terry of Blue Springs, two sisters Retha Fitch of Independence, MO. and Mae Collier of Denver, CO. , grandson Rodney Hill of Lee’s Summit, MO., grandson Scott Hill and wife Mary and great-grandson Brett and great-granddaughter Olivia of Lee’s Summit, MO, and lots of nieces and nephews.
Her loving attitude and giving spirit will live on in each and every one of us. Family suggests contributions to Community of Christ, Stone Church Kitchen.
