Verna L. Davis

March 24, 1922 — August 17, 2003

Verna L. Graham Davis, 81, of Independence, MO, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2003 at the Independence Regional Health Center with her daughter at her bedside. Verna was a member of the Waldo Restoration Branch church. Mrs. Davis was born March 24, 1922 in Deloit, Iowa. She worked for the Independence School District from 1951 to 1969 as a cafeteria manager at William Chrisman and Truman high schools. From 1971 to 1979 she worked in the Montgomery Ward Service Department. She served as a faithful volunteer for many years at Independence Regional Health Center, and at Rosewood Nursing Care Facility. Verna was preceded in death by her first husband, Tommie Graham, who died in 1980, and her second husband, Jim Davis who died in 1990. Also preceding her in death were five brothers and one sister. Mrs. Davis leaves one daughter, Georgia Milliren of Kansas City, three grandchildren, Frank Milliren of Overland Park, Lance Milliren of Santa Rosa, California, Monica Milliren of Kansas City, three great grandchildren, one sister, Inez Hansen of Independence, one step-son Mike Davis of Trimble, MO, three step grandchildren and a step great granddaughter. Visitation for friends and family will be Wednesday August 20, 2003 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 21, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Davis has requested, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Waldo Restoration school or to the Disabled American Veterans Society.
