Janet Ilene Day passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 30, 2023. She was 84 years old. Janet was born to Norbert and Verla (Hodson) Phillips on March 24, 1939 in Independence, Missouri.
Janet spent most of her life in Independence and graduated from William Chrisman High School. She married her husband, Charles Day, in 1972. They were married for 51 years and created many memories together. Janet was a selfless woman. When she wasn’t serving others you could find her reading Amish books and the Scriptures, embroidering, counted cross stitching and working puzzles. She also loved to hunt and fish. She loved spending time with her family and loved her dog, Clifford II. She embraced every holiday and kept traditions alive. There were always filled stockings at Christmas and hunts for Easter eggs filled with money and candy at Easter. Her sweet silly presence will be missed beyond measure by so many who loved her dearly.
Janet is survived by her beloved husband, Charles; daughters, Robin Pfannenstiel (Paul), Angie Braun, Dawn Lavergne (Rick); sons, Ronnie “Ron” Day (Nicole), Donovan Day (Angie), David Day and Devlen Day; sister, Connie Hurlburt (John); 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Norbert and Verla (Hodson) Phillips and cousins, Ron McGuire, Donnie Downs and Phillip Phillips.
A visitation will be held on Friday May 5, from 9-10am at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Mo. Funeral Service will begin at 10am with burial to follow at Mound Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers she’s asked that donations be made to the Diabetes Foundation and the Shriners hospital for kids.
