Sandra Jean Dean, 67 of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Cremation is planned with a memorial gathering to be held from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Donations may be made in her name to the Kansas City Hospice House. Sandra was born September 9, 1950 in Independence, MO to Wilbur Eugene and Betty R. (Stillwell) McConnell. She has been a lifelong area resident graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1968 and later receiving a BA in social work from CMSU and a Master’s in social work from UMKC. She enjoyed traveling and weaving. She had worked as a therapist for a number of years for Madison Avenue Psychological Services, Marillac, Division of Family Services, the Kansas City, MO School District before retiring from St. Luke’s Hospital in October of 2017. She was awarded the Certificate for Achievement for Outstanding Field Performance by the School of Graduate Social Work, UMKC. Survivors include; her husband of 47 years, Gary Dean of the home; a daughter, Kelli Kurle and husband Dustin of Overland Park, KS; a son, Matt Dean and wife Alisha of Riverside, MO; a brother, Larry McConnell and 5 grandchildren, Charlotte, Catherine, Grayson, David and Quentin.
