Albert A. DeGhelder, “KC Al” 94, of Kansas City, MO, passed peacefully at home on August 15th 2013, and was taken from us by the Angels to go to Heaven. A Rosary will be held 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 20th at St. Gabriel Archangel Parish; 4737 N Cleveland Ave, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will follow at the church until 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 21st at the Church, burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, MO.
Al was born July 25th, 1919 to William and Madeleine (Provyn) DeGhelder and was a proud life long resident East Bottoms of Kansas City, MO. He attended St. Frances Catholic School. Al enlisted in the Army on August 15th 1941 and proudly served during WWII in the Army Coast Artillery and served with the Army Ranger in the South Pacific from January 7th, 1941until April 22nd 1945; state side six months four days; foreign services three years, four months, and two days. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters as Chief Ranger and Legion of Honor, American Legion Post 61, VFW 5606. Al retired after 45 years of Food Sales at John J. Meier, KG Sales and Lady Baltimore Foods. He also enjoyed his Ozark Lake Home and hanging with his buddies at the American Legion.
He is survived by wife of 37 years, Ethel Mae DeGhelder of the home; sisters, Lil Payne; and Mary Ellen DeGhelder both of Fort Worth, TX; daughters, Debbie K. Drummond and husband Tom of Newport Beach, CA; Debbie DeGhelder of Independence, MO; granddaughter, Sydney Madeleine Drummond; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; his special Angels, Mr. and Mrs. Al Ritter, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Kohler, Mr. and Mrs. Rod Lumley, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bax, and Ms. Missy Shifflett. The family encourages contributions to St. Gabriel’s Organ Fund in Al’s memory. The family would also like to thank the home care nurses and North Kansas City Hospice.
