Dorothy DeGraffenreid, 96, of Buckner, passed away Saturday December 22nd, 2012. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. January 3rd, 2013 at Glendale Restoration Branch; 17803 Susquehannah Ridge, Independence, MO 64056. Burial will be in Buckner Hill Cemetery at a later time.
Dorothy was born March 20th, 1916 in Linn Creek, MO, to Alexander Wilkes and Minnie (Hopkins) George. She was one of five children. Dorothy received an eighth grade education from Sunny Nook Elementery but went on to work as a Certified Nurses Assistant for the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital. July 1st, 1932 she married Earl DeGraffenreid in Jefferson City, MO. Together they had six children. She was especially fond of her dogs. Skipper, her most recent adoption will greatly miss his “Mom.” Dorothy is loved and will be greatly missed by her family.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Sue Phipps and husband Preston of Shawnee, KS; son, Marvin DeGraffenreid of Buckner, MO; daughter, Ruth Miller of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Cathy and husband Frank Curatalo, Anita Draggoo, Jeff Tuell and wife Charlotte, Mark Tuell and wife Dawn, Dottie Brunner, Max Miller, David Miller, J.R. DeGraffenreid, Becky and husband J.R. Hansen, and Tim DeGraffenreid; and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; children, Don, Dorothy Louise and Esther Joan DeGraffenreid; and siblings, Jim, Joe, Perrin, and Edith George.
