Duane Dehart

Duane DeHart, 75, of Sugar Creek, MO passed away on Friday, June 21, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Duane was born December 19, 1937 in Topeka, KS to Vernon and Wilma (Yates) DeHart . Duane worked for LCAAP as an accountant. Duane married Linda (Hepple) DeHart May 15, 1959. They have three children, Douglas DeHart Sr. (Carmen) of Independence, MO, Rick DeHart (Kristen) of Liberty, MO and Christy Cracraft (Greg) of Independence, MO. They have six grandchildren, Sara Bendorf (Brian), Lauren Smith (Brandon), Douglas DeHart Jr., Jessica Ethetton (John), Tucker DeHart and Benjamin DeHart. He also was a great grandfather “Papa” to Parker Eli Bendorf, Liam Douglas Smith and Everett Nathaniel Bendorf. He is also survived by his nephew, Matt DeHart and special friends, Verna Mohart and Steve Jackson. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Wilma DeHart and one brother, Charles DeHart. Duane was an elder in the Community of Christ, and was a member of the Summit Grove congregation. He loved his family and his church and gave his life to both causes. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Summit Grove Community of Christ Children’s Playground Fund at 411 S. Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64050. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. The Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Suburban Chapel with burial to follow at Mound Grove Cemetery.
