Delmar “Del” Clay Heishman was born on June 10, 1936, in Brunswick, MO to Clay and Fannie Heishman. He was predeceased by his wife Sandy, parents Clay and Fannie, brothers Glen and David.
Del was a member of the first graduating class of Fort Osage High School in 1955 where he excelled in sports. Afterwards, he served 6 years in the Army mostly stationed in Germany as a sergeant. Once honorably discharged he held such jobs as full-service station owner, Armco Steel and John Manville.
He married the love of his life, Sandy Baird Heishman, on August 24, 1962. They had three children Sherri Graham (Michael), Terri Davis (Mark) and Delray Heishman (Teresa). They were very blessed with 5 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, yelling at the Chiefs and MU games, but hunting was his true love. The one thing he did not miss was any of his kids’ sporting events, often leaving one game at half time to catch the end of his son or daughters’ game. He coached both girls and boys sports and was a member of the Fort Osage Booster Club and Alumni for many years.
He was the disciplinarian of the family with his military background but later in life he was a caretaker taking care of neighbors, his parents, and his mother-in-law. He was the best father anyone could ask for, always making sure we not only got what we needed but wanted and then some. The love that he showed his family was very evident and each one of us knew that if we ever needed anything he would be there with open arms. His love had no bounds for his family. He always made us feel loved and kept us safe. He will be missed dearly but we find comfort in that we will be reunited again with him some day loved and safe in his arms once again.
