Deloma Mae Newport passed away peacefully on April 11, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 84. She was born on September 11, 1939, in Rolla, Missouri to Warren “Eugene” and Flossie (Ballance) Duncan.
She grew up on a farm near Vichy, Missouri, attending a one room school house before moving into town when her father sold the farm and began work in a shoe factory. Deloma graduated from Vienna High School in 1957. For several years she worked part time at Perry’s Crescent Restaurant in Rolla and for a short stint for the Shoe Factory in Belle, MO. She met Noble Grant Newport, on a blind date about two years after graduating from High School, they fell in love and were married in 1960. They moved to Independence that same year.
To help make ends meet at home, Deloma took a job in Lee’s Summit with Western Electric in the 1960’s. After 28 years of service, Deloma retired from AT&T as an honorary life member of the Communications Workers of America when the plant was closed in the 1990’s. After retirement she worked part time serving lunches at Truman High School and when Lucent Technologies bought the At&T plant, she returned to her last AT&T job, making computer chips.
In her free time, Deloma found joy in simple pleasures like having lunch dates with friends from work. Deloma had a passion for fussing around in her yard, tending to her tomato plants and her flowers.
Deloma's life was a testament to love and care for family and friends. Deloma was a proud wife, mom, and grandmother. She cared for her youngest son in her home for 40 years after his motorcycle accident left him disabled with limited mobility and memory issues. She would also care for neighbors and friends, delivering food when they were sick, taking or picking up their kids from school or work. As many of her friends said, “Deloma loved everyone and everyone loved her”.
Deloma is survived by her sons, Kenton Newport (Stephany) and Kerry Newport; grandchildren, Jackson Newport and Emily Wixted (Sean); great-grandchild, Jonah; brother, Stan Duncan; nieces, Pam Buresmeyer and Patti Graven.
She is preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband, Noble.
Deloma embraced everyone with love and warmth. Her life will be celebrated at the services held on April 20, 2024. The visitation will take place at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, MO, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM immediately followed by the graveside service at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.
Deloma leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion. May she rest in peace as her memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved her dearly.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to NorthStar Community Supports, 18805 Hanthorn Drive, Independence, MO 64057 to support adult day care services and rehabilitation.
