Thomas Anton Dempsey  Sr.

Tom was born October 8th 1928 to Elbert A. and F. Hortense Dempsey in Independence MO. He passed away with loved ones by his side on June 8th 2017 at his sons home in Mesa AZ. Tom was a lifelong resident of Independence and Army veteran of WWII reaching Staff Sergeant in only two years. Tom attended Graceland College where he met his soulmate and love of his life Myradene Romaine Winship. They married graduation morning June 2nd 1950. After graduating from Denver University Business School Tom worked 33 years for COOP/Farmland Industries. He rapidly climbed the ladder of responsibility to become Vice President of Finance for Farmland Foods. He found satisfaction in being retired longer than he worked. Tom had a great love for his God and The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints now known as The Community of Christ. He served as a High Priest, Pastor, Counselor to the Bishop, World Church Investment Committee, Herald House Board of Trustees, Park College Board of Trustees, and numerous other capacities. Tom an avid Scouting supporter was very proud that all four of his sons earned the rank of Eagle and his daughter earned the Light of Life Award. Proud of his family origin Tom enjoyed sharing memories and stories over and over. He was a devoted husband and father providing for his family with unending and unconditional love. Tom tenderly cared for his wife at home for many years. Always standing by his children he lovingly helped them learn from their success and mistakes. Extended family was a special treasure especially being Uncle Tom and Grandpa. Friends were an integral part of Tom’s life with many life long friends and from their years as Winter Texans and Summer Coloradoans. He had a wonderful sense of humor pulling pranks and telling stories he loved to laugh. Tom’s parents, brothers Arthur and Frank, sister Sue Jane Howell, his wife Myradene and their daughter Linda Sue Dempsey, preceded Tom in death. He is survived by brother Elbert Dempsey and wife Esther, in-laws Iryce Boswell and husband Hugh, Gerry Winship and wife Sally, Verna Carlisle and husband Bob, Myron Winship and wife Sherry, children Thomas A Dempsey Jr. and wife Julie, Frank H. Dempsey, Daniel E. Dempsey, Nancy A. Dempsey, Timothy H. Dempsey and wife Kristen. Grandchildren Tracy Schrimpf and husband Larry, Tara Klick, Brett Dempsey, Ashley Winslow and husband Zack, Kyrah, Taliah and Daire Dempsey, Taylor and Christian Wheeler. Great Grandchildren McKenna and Meyer Schrimpf, Andrew Klick, Harrison and Abby Winslow, Paxton, Rylan and McKenna Wheeler, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Celebration of Tom’s life will be on July 15, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Good Shepherd Community of Christ Church 4341 Blue Ridge Blvd. Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be held 12:30-2:00pm prior to the service. All are requested to join the family for refreshments after the service.
