Evelyn Dennis, 97 of Independence, MO, loving mother, and grandmother passed away at Lakewood Care Center on November 4, 2009 surrounded by family.
Services will be Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 10:00am at Speaks Chapel 39th and 291 Hwy. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6-8:00 pm Friday, November 6 at the Chapel.
Lydia Mae Evelyn Holmes was born June 2, 1912 in Breckenridge, MO to Charles and Mae Holmes. She was the second oldest of five children, Leroy, Laverne, Doris, and Ruby Holmes. She attended Breckenridge High School, where she loved playing on the girl’s basketball team and graduated in 1931. Evelyn married Floyd J. Young in 1931.
To this marriage was born six children; Jackie Lee, 1933; Gerald Wayne, 1937; Floyd Jr., 1939; Larry, 1941; Dorothy, 1945; and Carol, 1947. Evelyn enjoyed 31 years of marriage until Floyd Sr. passed away in 1962. In 1969, Evelyn married Fred W. Dennis. They shared 19 years of life together until he passed away in 1988. She was a life-long member of the Community of Christ Church where she enjoyed attending reunions and women’s activities. Evelyn enjoyed the outdoors at the Lake of the Ozarks fishing and boating as well as traveling, visiting friends, and entertaining.
She is survived by her son, Floyd Young Jr. and his wife, Mary Sue; daughter, Dorothy Brokenicky, and her husband, Jim; and daughter, Carol Clawson, and her husband, Del, all of Lee’s Summit, MO. She also leaves behind Fred’s children, Pat Glass and husband, Ken, and Ronnie Dennis and wife, Shirley. In addition, Evelyn is survived by her youngest sister, Ruby Boatwright, of Independence, MO. Evelyn was blessed with 12 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Evelyn enjoyed 97 years here with her family and friends.
She will be missed and remembered lovingly. She is “Home” with family and friends and Her God.
