.Dr. John DeSena, 63, of Kansas City, MO passed away Wednesday, November 2nd at Overland Park Regional Health Center. John was born April 19, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY to Vincent and Mary DeSena. He received degrees from Brooklyn College, Hofstra University and received his PhD in Virology from St. John�s University. He served in the military at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. John was currently a Professor at UMKC School of Medicine. He proudly served in the University Diversity Committee and deeply cared about all of his students. In spite of years of serious illness, he kept his keen sense of humor. John had an undying faith in the field of medicine, and constantly strived to give the most relevant information to his students. Dr. DeSena is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Pinson) DeSena, daughter Chelle and husband Bob Cohen, granddaughter Emily Cohen, sister Christina Neri and husband Nicholas, niece Tina Maria and nephew Vincent Neri; mother-in-law Ferne Pinson. John was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 8th at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO 64052. Procession to follow for burial in Mound Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1900 W. 47th Place, Ste 310, Westwood, KS 66205.
