Felix Edward “Corky” DeSmedt, 85, of Independence, MO, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, October 22, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 600 North Liberty Street, Independence, MO with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd Raytown, MO 64138. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening with a rosary to be recited at 5:30 pm at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Felix was born September 14, 1936 to Mary E. DeSmedt and Felix J. DeSmedt in Independence, Missouri Jackson County. He attended St. Mary’s grade school and St. Mary’s High School graduating in 1954. Felix’s first job was working for Franks market at the corner of River Blvd and US Highway 24. Felix and his brother Joseph DeSmedt sold Christmas trees during the winter months for Franks Market, which later was Allied Shoe Store. Felix went to work for Kroger Store which later became Lipari Thriftway. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary E and Felix J. DeSmedt. Felix is survived by his brother Joseph G DeSmedt and Joseph’s wife Rowena (Winnie) F. DeSmedt.
