Mary Frances Dessent (Carroll), 80, Independence MO was called home to heaven surrounded by loved ones on September 5, 2017.
Mary was born February 15, 1937 in Kansas City MO to Thomas and Ellie (McCrohan) Carroll. She attended Holy Cross Elementary and graduated from Cardinal Glennon High School.
Mary was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and was extremely proud of her Irish Heritage. She was a long standing member of St. Mary Altar and Rosary Society (Circle 6) and was a former Eucharistic Minister. She wishes to extend special thanks to her lifelong friend Gale Watson for the gift of Holy Communion during her extended illness. She was a proud member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and was grateful for the fellowship that she enjoyed there.
Mary retired from JC Penney and continued to be one of the busiest retired people you could ever know. She selflessly gave of her time and strived to be of service to others. She enjoyed bowling and was blessed with a multitude of friends and was quick to accept those that she loved as her extended family.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Dessent and son James Dessent, her parents Thomas and Ellie Carroll; her brothers John, Tom, Maurice, and Father Patrick Carroll, and Donald Jenkins, her life partner whom she shared many adventures with while cruising the Caribbean and Alaska.
Mary is survived by her sons Tom, Bob, and Chris Dessent and her daughters Karen (Tony) Guerra and Kathleen (Jim) Jackson, four grandsons, three granddaughters, two great grandsons, one great granddaughter, her brother Joseph Carroll, and numerous cousins, extended family and close friends.
Visitation is Friday September 8th, 6-8 pm, Rosary will be prayed at 7 pm at Carson Speaks Funeral Home, 1501 W Lexington Ave. Independence MO. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 am on Saturday September 9th at St Ann Catholic Church Independence MO. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Raytown MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations to either the American Cancer Society or Crossroads Hospice.
