Thomas W. “Tom” Dessent, 58, Independence, MO passed away unexpectedly Jan. 7, 2019. Mass will begin at 11:00 am, Friday, Jan. 11 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 10113 E. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64053; interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Rosary at 5:30 pm will be followed by visitation from 6-8 pm, Thursday at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. The family requests contributions to the ALS Association Mid-America Chapter, 6950 Squibb Rd, Mission, KS 66202.
Tom was born March 31, 1960 in Kansas City, MO and was a life-long resident of Independence, MO. He graduated from William Chrisman High School in the Class of 1978. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and had served on the U.S.S. Nimitz and U.S.S. Eisenhower aircraft carriers. He was a carpenter by trade but in recent years was a caregiver to his parents and his brother, Jim, until their deaths. He also cared for his sister, Kathleen, to whom he donated a portion of his liver. He enjoyed photography, genealogy and fixing old clocks and watches.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Mary Dessent and brother Jim Dessent. He is survived by sister Karen Guerra and husband Tony, Kansas City, MO; brother Bob Dessent and fiancée Lisa Scheetz, Raytown, MO; sister Kathleen Jackson and husband Jim, Buckner, MO; brother Chris Dessent, Independence, MO; his beloved dog Chloe Grace; many nieces, nephews and other family members.
