Martha Mae Dewey

September 19, 1916 — July 6, 2004

Martha Dewey, 87, of Independence, MO passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at the Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The visitation will be held one hour prior, from 2-3:00 p.m. in the chapel. Martha was born on September 19, 1916 in Shawnee, OK to Frank and Irene (Nave) Bogart. She was an active member of the Central Congregational Church in Topeka, KS, a Worthy Matron of the Jefferson City Masonic lodge, Victoria Lodge #14. Martha was also the past President of the Topeka YWCA and active in the fund raising to build a new YWCA, including the founding of the Every Woman�s Resource Center. She volunteered for Hospice, the VA Hospital and was a DAR member. Martha had a passion for family, and was an avid believer in the power of family, family history and traditions. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and a deep spirituality that will be missed by all who knew her. Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, John M. Dewey, as well as her daughter, Barbara Myers. She is survived by her three daughters, Pam and husband Ned Diecidue of Independence, MO, Marion Auman of Bonner Springs, KS, and Nancy Nowlin of Oregon, OH; one brother, Bob and wife Dorothy Bogart; grandchildren, Amanda and husband Brad Drinkwater, Molly Buttler, John and wife Shannon Auman, Kathy Patton, Brent and wife Melinda Nowlin, Tracy Aiton, Ann Myers and David Myers; and 11 great grandchildren.
