Floyd Dickey

January 4, 1932 — June 15, 2012

Floyd V. “Flo” Dickey, 80 of Independence, MO passed away Friday, June 15, 2012 at the Independence Manor Care following a long illness. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the Carson-Speak Chapel 1501 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, MO 64052. Burial will follow in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at the chapel. If lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Palmer Senior Center 218A Pleasant St., Independence, MO 64050. Flo was born January 4, 1932 in Urbana, MO one of eight children to Fred and Goldie (Mitchell) Dickey. He had worked for over 39 years for Missouri Gas Energy before he retired in 1992 as a machine operator. He was a member of the Trailriders Camping Club for over 20 years, an active member of the Optimist Club of Sugar Creek and a very active volunteer for the Palmer Senior Center, where he got the nickname “Flo”. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary of the home; his children, Jim and his wife Terri of Independence, MO and Brenda Funk and her husband Henry of Kansas City, MO; 3 sisters, Nina Hayhurst, Ollie Harris and Gladys Bauersacks; 5 grandchildren, Dustin Fiene of Independence, MO, Blair, Aaron, Alison and Adam Funk of Kansas City, MO and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Calvin, Glen, Ben and Billy Ray and a sister, Bertha. He will be missed by all.
