Charles Dimmel

September 10, 1927 — June 24, 2004

Charles Dimmel, 76, Independence, died Thursday at his home. He was born September 10, 1927 and had lived here all of his life with the exception of the time he spent in the Navy Air Corps . For most of his career he was a manufacturers representative in the aircraft industry, excluding the 18 years he traveled with his two sons and their band, The Classmen, a national recording group.
Most recently Mr. Dimmel was a member of the Association of Naval Aviators and served on the Truman Depot Commission. Previously, he was a member of the City Planning Commission, held various offices in the Independence Junior Chamber of Commerce, and was appointed liaison between this club and President Harry Truman when the Truman Library opened. He and T. Hall Collinson, former editor of The Examiner were two of the original members of the K. C. Chiefs� Redcoaters, because of their success in securing the Chiefs� relocation to Kansas City.
He was a graduate of William Chrisman High School , the Junior College of Kansas City, and a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Anna Virginia, and three children, Drew, Doug and Suzanne Dimmel, and their spouses, Jane Phelps Dimmel, Elizabeth Brown Dimmel and Roger Lumley. He also leaves eight adoring grandchildren: Michael Dimmel, Anna Howerton, Kathryn Glass, Thomas Dimmel, Jonathan Dimmel, Scott Glass, Catherine Lumley and Bonnie Lumley.
Anna and Preston Howerton recently presented him with his first great grandchild, Bria Howerton.
He also leaves his brother, Fred Dimmel and two sisters, Margaret Fleschman and Kay Hufstedler, nephews Fred Dimmel II, Mark Hufstedler and a niece, Janet Bowman.
Services will be 11:00 am Tue. Jun 29, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church of Independence. Burial in Floral Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 - 8:30 pm Monday at the George C. Carson & Sons Funeral Home. Contributions are suggested to the Charles Dimmel Music Memorial, C/O any Blue Ridge Bank & Trust.
