Jay A. Dixon, 95, passed away on May 5, 2021. He was devoted husband of Emma (deceased),
father of Kathy (John) Burmaster of Haddonfield, NJ, Diane (Jack) Knapp of Lee's Summit,
MO, Duane of Tucson, AZ, and Jon (Julie) of Venetia, PA, with 11 grandchildren and 9 great
grandchildren.
The youngest of five children, raised on a dairy farm in Sharpsville, PA, after
high school Jay served in the army 343 rd Infantry, 86th Black Hawk Division as a Sergeant in
the Philippines and Germany in WWII. He continued in the army reserves for 6 years while
attending business school and beginning his career at the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad in
Greenville, PA where he worked as a Supplies Manager for 35 years.
Jay was a lay minister and frequent soloist at the Community of Christ Church as well as in
annual performances of Handel's Messiah in Greenville. After taking early retirement, he and
Emma moved to Independence, MO to be closer to their daughter Diane's family and the
headquarters of their church. There he worked part time as the bookkeeper for a local
cemetery.
Jay and Emma (d. 2012) moved to Solstice Senior Living, Lee's Summit, MO in 2011, where he
continued to share his love of music by leading hymns and singing solos at Sunday morning
worship services. He enjoyed playing Wii Bowling with other residents until his health began to
decline. Internment will be with a military honor guard service.
