Dorothy (Dot) was born July 13, 1919, at home in Independence, MO to John Robert and Dora Velma (Chrisman) Srader. She was the seventh child of a family of twelve children. Dorothy was united in marriage to Virgil I. Dobson on May 13, 1939. He preceded her in death in December 2008. To this union three children were born: Lloyd C., Donna L., and John L.
Dorothy and her husband, Virgil, owned and operated Make-Nu Carpet Works for 19 years. It was later known as Dobson and Sons Carpet Co. They sold it because of Virgil’s ill health. She then went to work as bookkeeper/receptionist for Drs. Fred and Charles Zammar, their family doctors. She worked there for seven plus years. They decided then to move to their lake home at the Lake of the Ozarks.
After not working for a couple of years, she went to work for Wright-Price Bookkeeping, as a bookkeeper for another nine years, which was in Camdenton, MO. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 60 years.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Lloyd C. Dobson of Florida, Donna L. Kendall (David), and John L. Dobson (Linda), both of Independence; eleven grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Frances Thompson, of Kansas City, and Pauline Grimm, of Tulsa, OK, two very dear sisters-in-law, Nova June Carleton and Janis Srader; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Grace Hospice and Home Instead for their wonderful care and compassion for Dot.
