Linda Gail Dobson (Burnup)

Linda Gail Dobson, 75 of Independence, MO passed away Sunday, May 3, 2020 at her residence. Private visitation and graveside services in Woodlawn Cemetery will be by family invitation. The family suggests donations in her name to Animals Best Friends or to the American Cancer Society. Linda was born August 22, 1944 in Washington, DC to Robert H. and Edwina (Witthar) Burnup. She moved to Independence at an early age and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1962. She was president and co-owner of New Signs, located in Independence, from 1995 until she retired in October of 2017. Prior to that she worked at Rival Manufacturing Company as a home economist assistant, where she received national recognition for naming a new product. She was an animal lover and supporter of animal rescue efforts. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and spending time with family especially her grandchildren. She was a member of Blue Ridge Boulevard Christian Church. Survivors include; her husband of 57 years, John Dobson of the home; 3 sons, Michael Dobson and his wife, Melinda of Pleasant Hill, MO, Mark Dobson of Independence, MO and Mitchell Dobson and his wife Michelle of Grain Valley, MO; 2 sisters, Brenda Phillips of Lee’s Summit, MO and Lucinda Wilkinson of Houston, TX; a step brother Mark Liston of Shawnee, KS, 7 grandchildren, Benjamin, Andrew, Hannah, Matthew, Marshall, Lindsey and Manning, and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, her mother and step father Don Liston.
