George Jerome “Jerry” Doerr was born January 30, 1941 to George D. Doerr and Golda (Barks) Doerr in Dexter, MO and passed away on March 22, 2008.
Jerry, 67, graduated from Dexter High School in 1958 and served four years in the U.S. Navy on the USS Steinaker out of Norfolk, VA cruising the Mediterranean and chasing a destroyer in the Cuban crisis. Jerry married the love of his life, Phyllis “Tee” Myers-Doerr and enjoyed 31 wonderful years together before losing his battle to cancer.
He worked at Bendix Manufacturing after returning from the Navy. His father taught him the love of construction and he went to work for Andes and Roberts Construction, learning the art of concrete finishing. He then started his own concrete business and worked for more than 40 years for area builders, retiring in 2007.
Jerry adored his grandchildren, he and Tee loved to travel in their RV, and he loved to fish. He enjoyed Thursday night dinners with his friends. Jerry’s kindhearted nature and love for animals helped save many strays.
