Independence, Missouri

Dolores Jean McLaughlin (Housh) came to this earth on June 21, 1937. On September 8, 2024 she returned to her heavenly home to be with her husband Lewis, daughter Belinda and many other dear loved ones.

Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 19, 2024 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel with inurnment to follow in Mound Grove Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in her name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

Mom was raised in Persia Iowa, which she loved dearly. She met Dad a few years after moving to Independence, Missouri with her Mom. Not long after, she and Dad married and began their journey of 68 years together.

Their first child, Belinda, was born with cerebral palsy. They were told to put her in an institution, but they said no. Mom tirelessly took care of her total needs until she passed away at eighteen years of age. While doing this she also had two other daughters and a son.

Not long after the passing of Belinda, she filled that huge hole that was within her by taking a job at Stone Church Preschool. Mom loved teaching the children with all of her heart and devoted herself to it for twenty-five years.

The close friends that were a large part of Mom and Dad’s lives were a source of trust and thanksgiving and so much love it was a wonderful blessing to all of us. All of the memories were a source joy and gratitude to Mom.

Traveling and camping were such fun times Mom shared with Dad for so many years. They loved planning for and seeing new places. But they had their favorite spots they continued to go to time and time again.

Mom’s parents Kermit Housh and Mary Fike and step father Roy Fike preceded her in death, as well as her step sister Clara Prescott. Left here with hearts full of love and memories are her children Denise, Tonya (Dennis) and Lewis E. (Terry), along with eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren and her dear step brother, Albert Fike that resides in Dayton, Ohio.

Thank you, Mom, for the years of work and sacrifices and the unwavering love you have always shown. We are forever grateful. Your love and legacy will live on in all of us. We love you.
