Doreen Wilson, a beloved soul whose life journey spanned continents and touched the hearts of many, passed away on Saturday, May 4 , 2024 in Lee's Summit, Missouri. She was born on August 22, 1926, in Cleveleys, England to her loving parents, Frederick and Isabella Lamb.
Doreen's path in life was one of creativity and compassion. From her early days baking with family to her distinguished career as a baker for public school systems and graphic designer for Graphic Plus, where she designed layouts for yellow pages, she exuded talent and dedication. Her educational pursuits took her to Fleetwood England and trade school for baking, shaping her into the talented individual she became.
One of the few war brides left from WWII in the area, Doreen's courageous spirit shone brightly. Arriving in America on the USS Washington on May 17, 1946, she shared captivating tales of gazing at the Statue of Liberty in early morning, a symbol of the new beginnings and possibilities that awaited her. Her resilience and strength were truly remarkable.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Doreen found joy in simple pleasures like cross-stitching, knitting intricate designs, creating beautiful pillowcases, and indulging in the melodies of big band music also a devoted fan of John Denver.
Her personality was a tapestry woven with traits of organization, love, compassion, and boundless creativity. Doreen's presence lit up every room she entered; her warmth touched all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Fred (Susie) Wilson, Elizabeth Farmer; grandchildren, Christene (Alan) Quint, Sheila (Steve) Fagan, Matthew (Jennifer) Smith, Jamie (Chris) Smith, Larry (Emily) Steele, Ronnie Steele, Rebekah (Dwayne) Davis, Tim (Kirsten) Steele, Emilie Wilson; 20 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren; Siblings, Joan Illingworth, Norman Lamb; son in law, James (Brenda) Smith; many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. She is preceded in death by husband Forrest Wilson, daughter, Isabella Smith, great granddaughter, Blue Davis; son in law, Albert "Skip" Farmer; siblings, Dorothy Dodgin, Charles "Fred" Lamb, John Lamb. Doreen leaves behind cherished memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of her family and friends.
In honoring Doreen Wilson's life today, we celebrate a remarkable woman whose legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. May she rest in peace knowing that her kindness and creativity left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Cremation is planned with Memorial activities to take place at Outreach Restoration Branch, 723 S. Crysler, Independence, Missouri 64052, on Saturday, May 18, 2024. Family will greet guest for Visitation at 3:00pm with Memorial Service to begin at 4:00pm.
