Independence

Doris Elaine Greene, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025, in Independence, Missouri, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. Born on October 17, 1935, in Fort Madison, Iowa, she brought joy and creativity into the lives of all who had the privilege to know her.

Doris was a proud graduate of Fort Madison High School, class of 1954 where her bright spirit began to shine. Throughout her life, she embodied a loving, creative, and faithful personality. She dedicated herself to her family and community, always being the first one to lend a helping hand. Her involvement as a room mother and active PTA member at her children's school showcased her unwavering commitment to nurturing those around her.

Doris had many hobbies and interests that reflected her artistic spirit. She found joy in crafting, with a special talent for ceramics, where her detailed painting brought life to every piece. Crocheting was another passion of hers, and her hand-crafted gifts were treasured by family and friends alike. An avid reader and lover of mind-challenging word searches, Doris also enjoyed spending weekends bowling and tending to her beloved flower beds. Her legendary cooking, particularly her famous German potato salad and stuffing, is a cherished memory for many who gathered around her table.

One of Doris's most delightful projects was the "Doris Tree," which stood proudly in her yard, beautifully decorated for every season and holiday, becoming a symbol of her joyful spirit and creativity. Her home was always filled with laughter, kindness, and a sense of belonging.

Doris's greatest pride and joy lay in her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, John Greene Sr., her children John Greene Jr. and wife Lori, Pamela Byam, and Debra Scarbrough. Doris was also the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and delighted in the love of her 27 great-grandchildren, who brought her immense happiness.

Doris joins her parents, Joseph A. and Edna L. Ruble, and siblings, Lloyd and Ethel, her son-in-laws, Jack Scarbrough and Fred Byam, along with one grandchild.

A visitation to honor Doris will take place on April 26, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Carson-Speaks Chapel located at 1501 W Lexington Ave, Independence, MO. A graveside service will follow at Valor Park Memorial Gardens in Grain Valley, MO, where family and friends will gather to pay their final respects.
