Dorothy Joan Higgins, born on March 1, 1942, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2024, in Independence, Missouri. She was a cherished sister, mother, aunt, and grandmother whose warm spirit and generous heart touched the lives of many.

 A proud graduate of Van Horn High School, Dorothy carried with her the values of hard work and dedication throughout her life. In her younger years, Dorothy found fulfillment in volunteering for the Salvation Army, reflecting her deep commitment to helping others. This dedication and selflessness were hallmark traits that defined her character and life journey. She was known for her beautiful needlework, often crafting delightful gifts for her family that were treasured for their love and artistry. In her leisure time, she enjoyed engaging in word search games, a pastime that brought her joy and relaxation.

Dorothy is survived by her beloved sister, Donice Heriford; brother, Russell Baird (RuthAnne); daughters, Ada and Sandra; many nieces and nephews and her beloved grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Higgins, her parents, Chester and Marguerite (Turner) Baird, and her daughter Donna.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever be etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. Dorothy's memory will be lovingly held by her family as they remember her life and the countless ways she impacted those around her.
