Dorothy Darlene Loomis, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024, in Oak Grove, Missouri, surrounded by her family. 

Born on November 12, 1932, in Saint Joseph, Missouri were she was a graduate of Pickett High School.

 

 Dorothy was a stay at home mother working later at Hardee's Restaurant in Independence making the best biscuits for customers. Her family loves memories of her making rolls and cinnamon rolls—or delighting most of her family with her special oyster dressing during Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. One of her hobbies was making hats and blankets for her grandbabies and great grandbabies. 

 

Dorothy enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought her joy. She loved the thrill of bingo, relished the strategy of Farkle with her friends at Vesper Hall in Blue Springs. She loved shopping trips and outings to her favorite casinos along with dining out. She loved watching Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud she would refer to as wanting to watch Funny Man we knew was Steve Harvey. She drew comfort and strength from her faith, remaining an active member of her church community @ Summit Park in Lee's Summit, MO. 

 

Her children, Rita Berry, Penny Barreto (Vince), Verdie Schnoor (Michael), Mary Rausch (Bernell McKinley), Donna Klotz (Chad). 

Her step children Susie Morton (Bob), Danny Loomis (Janice), Randy Loomis, Linda Elliss.

21 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren

Her sister, Velma Spalding along with countless nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends will remember the essence of Dorothy who loved special times getting together with family. 

 

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Loomis; son, Michael Bradbury; daughter, Suann Bradbury, daughter, Bobbie Loomis; grandson, Shane Barreto.

Parents, James and Cecil Basham and siblings, Lester (Drut) Basham, JL (Red) Basham, Deloss Basham, Loraine Marlin, Charlene Cindell. Dorothy’s commitment to family will forever remain a guiding light in their lives.

 

Dorothy's life will be celebrated during visitation at Carson-Speaks Chapel in Independence, Missouri, on September 10, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.

A graveside service at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens will take place at 3:15 PM, where her family will lay her to rest with the love and respect she so richly deserves.

 

As family and friends gather to honor Dorothy Darlene Loomis, her family will carry forward her loving spirit, remembering the many ways she touched their hearts.
