Grace was the daughter of George Bryant and Frances Claudine Allender and was born Aug. 7, 1933 on the family farm in Higginsville, MO. She spent her childhood in Mayview, MO where she went to grade school and high school. She was very active in music and played the violin and French horn.
Grace became a Christian at age twelve. She graduated Vice-President of her Senior Class, went to Kansas City and became a transcriber for the United Jewish Association. She worked for seventeen years at the Salvation Army as a social worker in Independence, MO and with a doctor of Social Services in Eastern Jackson County. She had a special understanding of people’s needs. She served under seven officers and loved the families that she helped.
In 1955 she married Raymond R. Doss and had a son, Rondal B. Doss. A young lady, Rebecca Witthar, came into their lives in 1972 and became the daughter and sister they never had. Becky eventually married Bill Bishop.
Grace’s favorite time of the year was Christmas. She enjoyed giving and family gatherings. She was always there when one needed a friend, loved cooking, quilting, English gardening and cleaning house.
Grace is survived by her son, Ronnie; daughter and son-in-law Becky and Bill Bishop; sister and brother-in-law Betty Lou and Charlie Overstreet; aunt Ethel Barnett and three brothers-in-law. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Raymond and two sisters-in-law.
Grace’s favorite passage in the Bible was one all Christians are familiar with. Please turn your Bible to John 3:16 and read with me:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Grace’s love for God and family will never be forgotten. We will keep her memory in our hearts, knowing that she was a child of God and that she loved us, too.
