Douglas Boyd Arteman, of Holden, Missouri, a beloved friend and son, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, in Payson, Arizona, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and love. His family and friends mourn this loss while celebrating the remarkable life he lived.
Doug was known for his warmth, generosity and unwavering dedication to those he held dear. He touched the lives of many with his sincerity, kindness and listening ear. His presence and demeanor brought value to those around him. He never met a stranger; he would always ask about everyone’s story to learn how they got where they were and where they were going. Doug will always be remembered as a person who loved deeply and gave selflessly.
Doug lived a life filled with love and compassion. He was born in Urbana, Illinois, on Aug. 3, 1968, the son of Robert and Carol Arteman. He touched every soul he met with his infectious smile that captured the hearts of classmates and teachers alike from elementary school in Normal, Illinois, to his graduation from Raymore-Peculiar High School in 1986. He went on to attend the University of Missouri and three colleges in Colorado. He graduated as a nuclear medical technician in 1990. Doug received a master’s degree in psychology from Wheaton College in 2006. His initial employment was at Penrose-St. Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs. He worked with numerous hospice patients, aiding them in their last transitions in life. He completed his 29 years in the medical field at St. Luke’s Hospital in Lee’s Summit. At his passing, Doug was working as an independent contractor transporting vehicles around the country.
Doug loved to travel, hike and backpack. He enjoyed taking photos and videos, and was devoted to the many dogs he owned over his lifetime. He was a dedicated member of St. Aidan’s Anglican Church where he could always be counted on to meet the needs of the parish, whether it was serving on the processional team or helping out with the tech team. He was deeply devoted, always putting others before himself. His caring nature made him a beacon of light in all the communities he was involved in. His sense of humor and ability to make everyone feel special will be deeply missed.
Doug is survived by his parents, Robert and Carol Arteman, and many lifelong friends. He is preceded in death by grandparents Joseph and Gretchen Wahrer of Glenview, Illinois, and Roy and Vanessa Arteman of Heyworth, Illinois.
