John R. Doutt

December 27, 1928 — September 11, 2003

John R. Doutt, 74, of Independence, MO, passed away September 11, 2003, at the Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2003, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel; burial in Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association. John was born in Independence, MO, on December 27, 1928, and lived most of his life in this area. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He had worked as a janitor for the Little Blue Valley Sewer District for 10 years, retiring in 1993. He formerly had worked for the Vendo Corp. for 15 years. John had played professional baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Cincinnati Reds. He coached in several different leagues, including American Legion, Zenas Smith, Ban Johnson and Kiwanis for over 23 years. John was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Jr.; his parents, Bill and Opal Doutt; a brother, Sam; and a sister, Ruth Ingertson. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Emily R. Doutt of the home; three daughters, Debbie and husband, Bobby Myles, Joni Countryman, Tina and husband, Tim Elder, all of Independence, MO; three brothers, William "Buzz" Doutt Jr. of Holden, MO, and James and Donnie Doutt of Independence, MO; four sisters, Helen Nichols, Mary Ellen Bloomquist and Vera Doutt, all of Independence, MO, and Joanne Horn of Lone Jack, MO; five grandchildren, Crissy Doutt, Donnie Countryman, Joey Myles, Matt Moon and Heather Myles; and one greatgrandson, Zachery Smith.
