Gilbert Dowding, 68, of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014. A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Monday, May 12, at Speaks Suburban Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel. Burial will be at Floral Hills East, Lee’s Summit. Gilbert was born July 17, 1945 in Trenton, MO as the only child of Russell and Chlodine (Ray) Dowding. He was raised on a farm in Gilman City, MO and graduated high school there. On December 31, 1964 he married his love, Jane (Terhune) and together they raised two girls. Gilbert worked for Ford Motor Co. at their assembly plant for 33 years before retiring. He enjoyed being a member of and supporting Boy Scouts as well as Mic-O-Say, dancing with his granddaughter, and above all being with his family. Gilbert is remembered as giving, caring, and supportive. He is loved and will be missed. Gilbert is survived by wife, Jane of the home; daughter Melinda Newberry and husband Paul of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Austin and Amanda Newberry; son-in-law, Mike McCoy of Archie, MO; grandchildren, Missy, Morgan, and Jason McCoy, and Brittany Dawn. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Melissa McCoy; and parents-in-law, Howard and Elsie Terhune. The family encourages contributions to Crossroads Hospice in his memory.
