Dorotha N. Dowell, 90, of Independence, MO passed away in her home on Thursday, September 10, 2020. A visitation will be held from 9-10am on Thursday, Sept 17th with a memorial service following at 10am, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St.; Independence, MO 64055.
Dorotha was born April 19th, 1930 in Polo, MO to Leonard and Maude (Craven) Kern. She graduated high school and married her beloved husband, Joseph Earl Dowell on May 6, 1951, in Polo, MO. They settled in Independence, MO and there she made a house a home. Together, they raised three children, Rick, Ronny, and Denise. Dorotha was a long-time member of Hidden Valley Church.
Dorotha is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe; daughter-in-law, Gayla; niece Jill; grandnephew, Dalton; and nephew-in-law, Michael.
She is survived by son, Rick, son, Ronny and his wife, Mary, daughter Denise Huntley and her husband Nathan; grandchildren, Randy, Rayna (Jeremy), Sesly (Matt), Keith (Bekah), Derek (Meagan); great-grandchildren, Aynslee, Jacob, Carter, Cohen, and Joe; her brother, LeRoy and his wife, Sue along with his family, Jenny, Tim, Brooke, Reid, Shane and Tristan; as well as Joe’s family she claimed as her own, sister-in-law, Rosa Lee; sister-in-law, Bertha; and nieces and nephews, Jeff, Licia, Cindy, Perry, Pete, Ralph, Russell, Debbie, Roger and Linda.
Dorotha leaves her family a personal handwritten note, “remember I love each one of you with all my heart.”
