Hubert Gerald “Jerry” Dowell, Sr., 75, of Independence, MO, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, March 24th at Carson Speaks Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 25th at the chapel.
Jerry was born July 14, 1938 in Independence, MO to Hubert G. and Mary M. (Wiley) Dowell. He graduated from Central Methodist College with a degree in accounting. Jerry married the love of his life, Donna Kralicek and together they raised four boys. He worked for the Independence Police Department for 28 years, retiring as Major in August of 1999. He enjoyed amateur radio, coaching youth sports at the YMCA, and participating in Boy Scouts. Hubert is the proud father of four Eagle Scouts, belonged to the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, and Chairman of Three Trails District of Boy Scouts. He also belonged to KCRC model airplane club. He is loved and will be missed.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Donna of the home; son, Greg Dowell and wife Kristal and their children Andrew and Kyle; son, Steve Dowell and wife Rayanne and their children Jesse and Sam; son, Hubert Dowell, Jr. and his daughter Kailyn; son, Jeff Dowell and his children Jason, Tate, Jett, Quinn, and Bo. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family encourages contributions to Oakland United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
