L. Alan Dowhower, 75, of Sibley, MO, passed away on Tuesday, March, 23, 2021. Cremation is planned, with inurnment to follow, at a later date, at Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. Alan was born and raised in North Platte, NE. He enjoyed playing sports, water skiing and hunting. His senior year his football team won the state championship. Alan continued his football career at Graceland College, where he earned his first bachelor’s degree in Sociology. During his college years he worked as a ranch hand in the Canyons South of North Platte. While at Graceland, he met his wife of 54 years which began his greatest accomplishment of his life, his family. Following graduation, he was an officer in the Marines where he served his country honorably, receiving the Purple Heart. Upon returning home he earned his second degree in Architecture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In the years following he was a foster parent, pastor and a mentor. He enjoyed spending time with his family at Lake Maloney, taking vacations and snowmobiling. He was an avid sports fan, whether a coach or spectator. Alan was kind and generous. Always our protector and defender. Solid, faithful, and loyal from beginning to end. Never out of wise advice. The best advice he gave was the words of God.

Alan is survived by his wife, Johnita Dowhower; children, Marné Garrett, Susan Dowhower, Jon Dowhower (Denise), Donelle Thompson (Mark), and Angelan Wright (Robbie); grandchildren, Bryant Henry (Melissa), Stephanie Mark (Jordan), Mariah Weiss (Paul), Brennan Garrett, Jonathan Dowhower, Zachary Dowhower, Avery Thompson, Bennett Thompson, Payton Wright, Hadley Wright, Neal Wright, and Ella Wright; and great-grandchildren, Kailey Henry, Sophia Henry, Jaxon Henry, Andrew Mark, and Rowan Weiss; all great-grandchildren to come; siblings, Janet Webster and Kerby Dowhower (Trudy); and many nieces and nephews. Alan is preceded in death by parents, Lloyd and Erma Dowhower; a son, Neal Dowhower; brother-in-law Bob Webster; and nephew Jacob Dowhower.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Prison Fellowship or Samaritan’s Purse.
