Thelona R. Dowis, 85, of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, October 21, 2004 Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be 1:00 pm Friday, October 22nd at George C. Carson and Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service from 12:00 until 1:00 at the chapel. Burial in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Thelona was born March 10, 1919 in Independence, MO to George L. and Mary Ruth (Leaverton) Cook. She grew up in this area and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1937. Mrs. Dowis was a gifted artist who loved oil painting. She enjoyed singing in many types of music. Thelona loved tending to her flower gardens each spring. She devoted much of her spare time to the church teaching Sunday School, in the Women�s Department, during Sunshine Camp and volunteering at The Temple and at The Groves. Mrs. Dowis is survived by her daughter Nancy Stanfield and her husband Robert of Independence, MO; son Roger Dowis and his wife Linda of Fulton, MO; grandchildren Christe Winegar, Paige Stanfield-Meyers, Beth Kinder and Scott Dowis; great-grandchildren Nicholas, Derek and Shawn Winegar, Rhylie Kinder and Whitman Stanfield-Meyers. She was preceded in death by her husband Bantz J. Dowis.
